Scope & content | Begins with a history of Burton Mill and the 16th century iron forge site it was built on near Duncton, Petworth, Sussex. Describes the first record of milling on the site in 1780 to its 20th century restoration, including grain flow and the use of mill stones. Explains the early use of water power and the installation of water turbines in around 1930. Photograph on the back cover of Mr Harris and his assistant c1879. Both men are wearing a miller's hat and Harris holds a mill bill for dressing stones. |
