Each year we submit a list of all our acquisitions to the National Archives. 2018 saw an interesting and varied array of collections and smaller donations arriving at the Archive.
The total list of accessions for 2018 is available here. It includes:
- 14 new collections (22 boxes and 33.6 GB of data)
- 11 significant additions to collections we already hold (55 boxes and 0.4 GB of data)
- 29 small donations (8 folders and 2.0 GB of data)
- Total: 78 boxes, 36.0 GB
Here’s some more details on some of the highlights:
WHITLEY BRIDGE MILL COLLECTION
Whitley Bridge Mill was a roller flour mill originally opened in the 1870s by John and Thomas Croysdale. It was later owned by James Bowman & Sons Ltd, and ceased work in 2016. The Whitley Bridge Collection, saved by the kind help of a former employee, includes ledgers, plans and drawings, correspondence and photos, as well as a large number of digital images showing the mill in its final days.

MICHAEL HARVERSON COLLECTION
The majority of Michael’s collection arrived at the Archive in 2018. Michael Harverson (1937-2017) was a trustee of the Mills Archive, as well as a researcher with a particular interest in the mills of the Middle East. SMALL DONATIONS
These are a few of the smaller donations which people have given us:
