A special visit from the National Archives of Indonesia!

We were delighted to host a visit from the National Archives of Indonesia yesterday. The reason? They are starting to use AtoM for their own cataloguing software to connect all the regional archives throughout their country, and they wanted to hear about how it is used at the Mills Archive. So the work that our cataloguing volunteers are doing is being studied and admired on the other side of the world!

We were visited by Desi (Director of their Archival Information System and Network), Rustam (Senior Archivist) and Eksanto (Head of the System and Network Development division), who are spending 8 days in the UK visiting a few archives that use AtoM.

AtoM is relatively new cataloguing software, and we chose to move to this software 2 years ago as it meets national and international archive cataloguing standards. You are using AtoM when you view our images or documents online and it has transformed our ability to preserve the records digitally and to make them freely available to the public.

Our guests kindly presented us with gifts from their home country, before heading to their next visit in Scotland. We enjoyed sharing ideas and we wish them the best of luck in their project.
