The Great British Mill Race – a competition where you can help us update our Mills Database by sending us your pictures and information – is now up and running. Send us information and pictures for any mill or mill site, from anywhere in the UK. The Race will be running until National Mills Weekend 2017. Over the summer, we’ll be focusing on different areas of the UK in turn to help us focus the search.
Visit www.gbmillrace.org to take part in the Great British Mill Race and follow us on social media using #gbmillrace
This week we’re focusing on the mills of North East England: such as those in Tees, Newcastle, York, Northumberland, Sunderland and Tyne & Wear.
We want our mills database to be as up to date, accurate and useful as possible.
- Can you help us update our information for these mills?
- Can you tell us if these mills still exist?
- Do you know of mills in these areas not listed on our database?
Currently we have lots of entries on our database for mills in Durham and Northumberland – but can you help us update this information with recent photographs?
The image above is a sketch by Karl Wood of Whitburn Mill, Tyneside. Could you send us an up-to-date picture via www.gbmillrace.org ? Is there still a mill at this site? – let us know via www.gbmillrace.org.
So please send us your North East mills pictures and information – we look forward to receiving your entries to the Great British Mill Race. Next week, we’ll be focusing on the mills of the Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.
