One of our regular volunteers, Tom Hine, showed me a postcard he had noticed while sorting through a big stack of them. At first he thought it was written in a foreign language, but take a closer look and you might be surprised…
We were intrigued to spot that the author “Treb” – or Bert! – has written his message back-to-front on the back of a picture of Fakenham Mill. Who was Bert and who was Miss Savage, to whom the postcard is addressed? Why did Bert feel the need to conceal his message from any immediate and fleeting glances?
This is just one of many quirky things we find in the Archive, and one of my favourites so far.
