Yesterday we ran our first ever training workshop on caring for your collection. This workshop was designed for those charged with the responsibility of looking after a mill’s own collection of images and documents.
We covered topics such as the importance of keeping records in the first place, how to organise and record what you have, preservation considerations e.g. environment and storage, and we explored how to make material digitally available to the public. One way we can support our Heritage Partners is by hosting their archive on our own new catalogue, which we will launch next year.
The event was attended by a number of people from several mills that support the Archive as Heritage Partners, and we are grateful for their presence. We found the day to be hugely enjoyable and the participants were very responsive and made meaningful contributions throughout.
What most impressed us was their interest in developing a sense of community within the milling heritage world. We hope that they continue on their journey and share ideas with each other.
We will run future workshops, the details of which will be announced both on our website and in our newsletter, so keep your eyes peeled for more events.
If you are an existing supporter of the Archive – or are simply interested – and wish to find out more about our training workshops, then please email friends@millsarchive.org and we will get in touch.
