The 2014 Mills Archive Research prize of £500 has been awarded to Edwin Trout for his work entitled “Traditional Milling Technology in the English Cement Industry 1796-1899”.
Cement mills are a neglected area of research and Edwin’s paper demonstrates how the topic is of great interest. In his position as Manager of Information Services at the Concrete Society, he has a published a series of expert papers and we are delighted that he has turned his attention to the molinological aspects of the industry.
The judges commented:
“an excellent piece of work on a little-known subject – just the sort of thing we should be publishing”
“a worthy prize winner, well presented, clearly well researched. and tackling a topic quite new to mill literature”
The work will be published in ealry 2015 as the third in our series of Mills Research Publications.
