As a volunteer at the Mills Archive, I am currently working on a social history project regarding the role of women in the milling industry. Do you have any information or comments?
So far I have focused largely on the nineteenth century, and have been using the books held at the Archive alongside the online database in order to find examples of the roles and experiences of women in any aspect of the milling industry. I aim to produce a report detailing the nature of women’s contribution to milling and the experiences they may have had as miller’s wives, daughters or as mill owners themselves. If anyone is able to contribute any information towards this project, it would be greatly appreciated.
