Artwork in quiet greens & off-whites (and several in a colourful mode) evoke the watery world of this land wrested from the sea.

There are maps and precise drawings of dredgers & windmills and their works. Yet, within an engineering context, Spier has written an enchanting history of Holland and its energetic and courageous people. A very handsome book.
