During the autumn of 2004 the Pontefract and District Archaeological Society was offered an opportunity to do a standing building survey with a limited amount of archaeology in the basement of Darrington Windmill. The project would led by Society Field Director Simon Tomson, and would consist of archaeological excavation within the basement of the mil and in the area outside the entrance, and a survey of the standing structure and any remaining milling machinery within.
