The olive mill is found in a ruined building within the complex of the ancient Greek city-state of Salamis. The building is dated to between 4th and 7th century AD, and the mill is located in the eastern part of the building within a semi-circular room. The large stone with a mortise likely indicates the mill was a lever-and-stone screw press (History and Technology of Olive Oil in the Holy Land, p.121).
