NEW: modern milling webpages – let us know what you think!

We are pleased to announce that the new modern milling webpages are now live on the Mills Archive website and available for public viewing. These pages are a part of the Mills Archive project to create the world’s first roller flour mill archive and library. This project has been funded by a grant from the Garfield Weston Foundation which has allowed us to expand our collections on roller mills, create a new Literature Index and hire an intern to help write the new webpages.

These new pages have been designed to be an educational tool, as well as giving users an interface to view and find items held here in the Archive and Library. As such, along with links to the catalogue and mills database, many articles can be found covering different topics associated with roller milling, including: the history of roller milling, the milling process itself, and details about important individuals, mills and machinery. These pages give a snapshot into an important industry still in use today.

Also highlighted in the new pages is information about the many different publications, both present and old, concerned about roller milling held here at the Archive. Particularly highlighted are the different Victorian Milling Journals, which will be featured on the new Mills Archive Literature Index that is being created. Current publications written by Mildred Cookson for the Milling and Grain magazine will also be viewable.

This only describes a few areas on the new site and we hope you enjoy looking through all the new material, we hope you will learn something new. Some elements of the site are still being worked on so don’t be surprised if you see new content added in coming weeks and months. Any feedback would be appreciated as we strive to bring notice to this often-ignored sector of the milling world.
