The Great British Mill Race – a competition where you can help us update our Mills Database by sending us your pictures and information – is now up and running. Send us information and pictures for any mill or mill site, from anywhere in the UK. The Race will be running until National Mills Weekend 2017. Over the summer, we’ll be focusing on different areas of the UK in turn to help us focus the search.

This week we’re focusing on the mills of North West England: such as those in Cumbria, Lancashire, Liverpool, Manchester and Cheshire.
We want our mills database to be as up to date, accurate and useful as possible.

Two of our featured mills are in the North West, Heron Corn Mill and Marsh Mill, Thornton, Lancashire (below).

However – there are lots of mills in the North West for which we have very little information, and certainly no up to date images, such as:
- Watermill, Ulverston
- Low Mill, Thurstonfield
- Grocer’s Warehouse, Manchester (water powered)
- Cranage Mill, Cranage
- Forge mill, Tetton
